CFR Local Journalists Workshop, April 7, 2022: CFR President Richard Haass and Ayman Mohyeldin discuss the international issues facing the United States, their implications for local communities, and the challenge to journalists in making the link between them.

Overview

CFR’s Local Journalists initiative helps print, broadcast, and digital-first journalists working for regional publications based throughout the United States draw connections between the local issues they cover and national and international dynamics. Through a webinar series, an annual workshop tailored to the needs of local journalists, and year-round foreign policy expertise and analysis, participants gain access to the vast resources CFR has to offer and a professional network of peers and sources. For more information on how to participate, please email [email protected].

CFR Featured Content

United States

Recent wildfires in Canada and California offer a preview of a world made far more dangerous by climate change, one in which smoke and fire exact an ever-increasing toll on public health and the economy.

Robots and Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) could transform economies, politics, and everyday life. Some experts believe this increasingly powerful technology could lead to amazing advances and prosperity. Yet, many tech and industry leaders are warning that AI poses substantial risks, and they are calling for a moratorium on AI research so that safety measures can be established. But amid mounting great-power competition, it’s unclear whether national governments will be able to coordinate on regulating this technology that offers so many economic and strategic opportunities.

COVID-19

The United States struggled with COVID-19, but some states managed to keep deaths and infections relatively low without shutting society down or ignoring the crisis.
